I call my approach ‘Boxes and Doors’. I view each issue that someone brings to counselling as a clue to what is stopping them from moving forward,
i.e. going from one box through a door, into another box. I say ‘clue’, because in a lot of cases, the presenting issue isn’t actually the
problem at all. Counselling is a great way to exercise the mind. Really get the brain going its like 'Physio for the Mind'.
The word ‘box’ is used to reflect familiar surroundings, such as our homes, schools, etc, which are all made of rooms (boxes).
I feel that I organise the mind into boxes and with the theories and techniques integrated into my model, I can help you to identify the boxes and doors that are blocking you from finding acceptance.
I aim to help you to understand where you are at the moment rather than always looking to the future or dwelling in the past.
By validating your past experiences and accepting that they play a part in how things have panned out now, enables you to utilise the experience for a positive outcome.
Turning negative experiences into positives and encouraging you to reshape the past, can be used as a tool or power to use later in life when needed.
It’s also worth noting that the past gives us clues to why we follow certain patterns in our lives especially with relationships. In this way counselling assists us to move towards more effective ways of coping, enabling us to have a greater control of our lives.
